Yurt Models:

Shelter Designs, LLC offers two yurt models.

Our Big Sky Yurt is handmade using high quality store-bought Doulgas Fir and Larch lumber for the frame. The roof rafters are dimensional 2x4 or 2x6 depending on the size of the yurt.

The Eco-Yurt is made incorporating sustainably-harvested local lumber in  the frame and hand-peeled lodgepole pine roof rafters. Visit our Eco-Yurt page for a complete explanation.

In order to give you the best yurt available today, we incorporate these features into every yurt.

30' Eco-Yurt
  • Wall lattice with finish heigth of 7'-2" (Tall Wall is our standard)
  • 3/8" Heavy Duty Tension cable of high quality steel
  • Solid wood exterior door with thermal pane window, not plywood and plexiglass.
  • Door awning and rain diverter over every entryway and glass window.
  • StarFire wall fabric and ProShield roof fabric
  • 36"x48" removable clear vinyl windows
  • Two windows on our 16'and 20'.  Three windows on the 24', 27', 30', 40'.
  • Acrylic dome skylight.  A fixed clear dome specifically designed to fit over the compression ring
  • Compression Ring of Fir/Larch and plywood laminate (for superior strength)
  • 2x4 or 2x6 (depending on yurt diameter) Fir and Larch Structural Select Roof Rafters (Big Sky Yurt Model)
  • Hand peeled Lodgepole Pine Roof Rafters (Eco-Yurt Model)

 

Experience has taught us that these design features make yurt living much more comfortable and enjoyable. 


While other manufacturers charge extra for many of these options, if they have them at all, we include them in our base price.  This means there are no hidden costs for you.
