Shelter Designs, LLC strives to provide an optimal home environment or guest retreat to serve your needs for comfortable and sustainable living. We offer custom yurt options for windows, walls, doors and items that will improve your yurt's livability and comfort. We are happy to work with your custom ideas that you may have for your yurt. Insulation package and interior fabric liner.
Shelter Designs insulation package will keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer. This effective, reflective product has proven itself through many extreme Montana seasons. Our wall insulation comes in a panelized form with the insulation sewn directly to the liner material to maximize adjustibility for window openings. The roof insulation and liner are separate pieces.
Stove jack for wood or gas heat.
Our easy to install flashing kit will be made to fit the size of pipe that you need (up to 8" in diameter). Please visit our yurt Frequently Asked Questions page to see what heating option is best for you.
Snow and Wind Kit.
The snow and wind kit consist of uprigt supports under each roof rafter, and sometimes a cable blocking system in the rafters. The upright supports are attached to the rafters, lattice and floor. This structural component increases the yurt’s ability to withstand extreme load conditions.
Center Ring Screen Insert.
Maintain a bug free environment in your yurt while still benefiting from an open skylight for maximum ventilation.
Dome Opener.
This is our most popular option. Opening the skylight provides maximum ventilation, drawing hot air out of your living space.
Door options.

Shelter Designs uses high quality solid wood exterior doors for your yurt, not plywood and plexiglass! The base price of your yurt includes a thermal pane window. We can add an energy efficient thermal-paned full light window at your request, as well as solid wood, 6 panel doors for maximum security.

If you desire multiple entrances, we can add another door. A 48" wide French door is one of our more popular options. Shelter Designs also offers a full light Screen door for our standard 36" entryway.

Additional or non standard-sized windows.
A Shelter Designs yurt comes standard with removable, flexible 48" x 36" vinyl windows. These vinyl windows can be orieneted horizontally or vertically to suit your taste. A removable fine mesh bug screen is included with every window to keep out the smallest of insects. Additional windows can be added to your yurt to meet your needs.

Shelter Designs also offers an opening thermal paned glass window. This 36" x 36" single hung window comes attractively set in its own frame and is easily and efficently installed.
Roof cover Options.

Choices include 3  vinyl-coated fabrics, available in a wide variety of colors.

ProShield is our standard roof fabric and carries a 8 year warranty.

ProBalance is a vinyl coated polyester that has a "no gloss" matte finish for a more natural look and feel.  ProBalance also carries an 8 year warranty. 

Duro Last is our premier roof fabric and carries a 15 year warranty.

Banner System
Advertise your business on your yurt!  Your name and logo can be placed on the valance or roof for maximum visibility.  One color and up to 5'x5'.  Contact us for more details.
Wall cover Options.

Choices include three quality, exterior fabrics.

StarFire: Our standard wall covering is an acrylic top coated polyester, carries a 5 year warranty, and has sewn seams.

Star500: This vinyl coated polyester carries a 5 year warranty, is easily cleaned with hot water and has thermally welded seams for superior performance.

Star800:  Our premier wall fabric is a vinyl coated polyester which carries an 8 year warranty, offers easy cleaning and also has welded seams.

Bottom Splash Band
Spruce up the look of your yurt while adding extra protection from splashing water and piled up snow!  This 18" band of Star500 is attached at the bottom of your exterior wall and adds an attactive look and practical protection from the elements.
Bottom Hook and Loop Attachment
Every Shelter Designs yurt wall comes with grommets spaced every foot around the bottom of the exterior wall to securely anchor the fabric to the floor frame.  Take the next step to fully seal the bottom of your wall and keep out stray drafts and those creepy crawlies!  This SD exclusive feature connects the wall to the floor frame with 2" hook and loop around the entire bottom perimeter, providing the ultimate seal to the elements.
Insulated Window coverings.
These window coverings will maximize the efficiency of your yurts insulation in extremely cold climates.

Fan Mount
Keep the air circulating in your yurt by installing a ceiling fan.  This attractive mount has an electrical box mortised into it for mounting most types of ceiling fans.
Cat pole (Catastrophic Situation Pole).
This is a central pole designed to support the roof in extreme loading conditions. This option is ideal when the yurt is mostly unoccupied or is not maintained during harsh winter conditions. Please call to see if this option is right for you.
